Burn Ban August 2026

August cows in dry pasture

Kaufman County is currently under a Burn Ban, which includes the City of Cottonwood. Dry grass, limited recent rainfall, and windy conditions have increased the risk of grass and wildfires. Outdoor burning is prohibited while the Burn Ban is in effect.

Residents should also use extra caution when grilling or barbecuing, welding outdoors, mowing, or performing other activities that could produce flames, heat, or sparks near dry grass and vegetation.
